Magic to be Networked Brisbane & Melbourne

Both Magic Melbourne and Magic Brisbane will be networked from Monday.

Brisbane’s Magic 882 will now be networked from Melbourne. MRN made a move on the station Wednesday afternoon where it was announced that the On-Air team and some admin staff would be made redundant.

The only On-Air  person left standing is Donna Lynch, who will do nights in Brisbane which will be heard in both markets.

In Brisbane, Magic 882 Breakfast announcer Ian Keenan, Operation Manager Ashley Easter, Drive’s Greg Victor, Greg Hinks who did nights and Kim Dennison who was on overnights are amongst the casualties.

“It is an unfortunate consequence of these changes that some roles will be made redundant. This is a critical requirement toward bringing each station greater commercial appeal for our audience and clients. It does not reflect in any way on our hardworking team members who have been made redundant. I would like to thank all of our Magic staff for their professionalism and dedication to our audience”, said MRN Chief Operating Officer Adam Lang.

Magic Melbourne’s John Blackman and Jane Holmes will be heard in both markets for  Breakfast 6am to 10am along with Dave Ferguson from 10am to 2pm. MRN say there will be a further announcements on a new presenter to join the Magic team in Afternoons and on  Weekends.

MRN who also still owns 2CH currently, say that it will offer advertisers a true network approach to music for the important 40+ demographic in the Melbourne and Brisbane markets.

“It is also important for MRN to offer an attractive audience to both agency and direct advertisers and the new ‘Magic Network’ alongside 2CH will help achieve this goal and be a strong complement to our strong national Talk network.

“We have completed substantial audience research and strategic work for our Magic stations in Melbourne and Brisbane. Our audience continually tells us that the right presenters are important and providing their choice of music is the primary requirement. We believe that these changes will give our listeners the best of both,” said Adam Lang.

With some wild storns in Brisbane overnight, Magic 882’s transmitter was hit meaning the station was Off-Air. Ian Keenen while still On-Air posted on the Magic Facebook page that it was his last shift. Since then a number of posts have appeared.
