A Sunshine Coast NYE

The “Norm” for most stations is take a network feed or voice track New Year’s eve, EON’s 91.9 SEA FM on the Sunshine Coast defied the “Norm” and was local from the sand at Mooloolaba.

The Sunshine Coast council event was first hijacked by 91.9 SEA FM last year as a test event, this year they upsized it with live audio from 2 stages. They hit the beach from 4pm and from 7pm local DJ’s took over the station.

The first a beach stage served the 3 Local DJ’s entertaining the all ages crowd and the night finished with a PotBellez live set broadcast from 11pm for the 2016 countdown.

For EON’s engineering team it was a challenge with multiple tech’s at various locations. One engineer was planted at private courtyard on top of a high rise resort, linking both stages via radio links which was then mixed and sent back to the station via a Tieline Merlin using ISDN.

The event attracted over 50,000 locals, making it one of the biggest NYE events in Queensland with 91.9 SEA FM providing all music including the 2 fireworks soundtracks synced to the fireworks.

General Manager John Williams said that “it’s a testament to the dedication of the team of EON to provide local and live content including the party time of New Year’s eve”
