ARN’s iHeartRadio Australia app has been put up on the blocks and given an upgrade. It’s now among the first music and entertainment third-party apps to be Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible in Australia.

It means you will be able to use the iHeartRadio app straight from car dashboard in all cars that are Apple CarPlay or Android Auto enabled.

Got a new 2016/17 Audi, Citroën, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Volkswagen, Kia, or Volvo – then chances are you’re in the drivers seat. Word is some manufacturers are also retrofitting some systems as well.

The news comes as iHeartRadio Australia celebrates the milestone of reaching 800,000 downloads of the app.

Head of iHeartRadio Australia Geraint Davies said, “As the time people spend in their cars continues to lengthen, from the daily commute to fun road trips, it’s more important than ever for us to be able to offer our listeners the very best in-car entertainment.

“With our announcement today, iHeartRadio Australia is cementing its position as an essential entertainment platform front and centre in our listeners’ car dashboard. iHeartRadio Australia now offers listeners a seamless in-vehicle music and entertainment experience, with the ability to listen to live radio, custom radio and podcasts through an improved mobile integration with their car’s own  entertainment system.”

“With over 800,000 app downloads in Australia, the additional benefits offered by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is going to see the popularity of iHeartRadio’s free service continue to grow.”
