Cairns Radio Has a New Star

Staff Writer

Grant Broadcasters has launched Star 102.7 this morning in Cairns. Star replaces their Zinc brand for the market with an 80s, 90s and now format, away from it’s Zinc rock ties. The On-Air line-up remains largely unchanged, with Breakfast with Dave and Inkie and local Drive with Beth Rep, all making the switch to Star. Hear the launch promo.

Chief Operating Officer Alison Cameron explains that the transition to Star has been occurring behind the scenes for several months.

“We’ve been refining our music library for some time and our format has gradually softened its rock edge. The brand change was the final piece of the puzzle. It’s a high impact brand and we look forward to showing it off,”she says.

Of particular importance for Grant Broadcasters is the opportunity to establish Star 102.7 as its own local entity.

“We’re focussed on structuring the resources of each station to be managed independently by each market, which creates rare new on and off air employment opportunities in regional radio,”Alison Cameron adds.

For the family owned Grant Broadcasters, it also signifies an investment in the Cairns business community, with the acquisition of a new studios and offices in Grafton Street which are currently under construction and fit-out.

Promotionally Star 102.7 has launched the search for Cairns’ Best Teacher in the Galaxy, a “Star on the Car”  ar giveaway and Cairns’ richest Breakfast cash giveaway, the classic $1000 Minute all part of the station rebrand.
