2 to leave SAFM Breakfast

Dave "Rabbit" Rabbetts and Craig Annis have been cut from SAFM breakfast in Adelaide.

The below Facebook post says the change will occur at the end of August, which times perfectly with a 2 week survey break between S6 and S7.

It would also allow time for a new show to settle in before 2013.

Hayley Pearson will remain, with an announcement to be made soon on who will join her.

'Adelaide Now' says Rabs and Craig were told this morning their contracts would not be renewed.

SCA Adelaide GM James Pedersen said...

"The reality is they've done everything they can but it just hasn't worked unfortunately. I would sincerely like to thank Craig and Rabbit for their hard work and dedication over the past years. Craig and Rabbit are both great talents in their own right and the business is working closely with both of them to ensure they remain part of the SCA family."

It's never great news for anyone in radio to get moved on, but we do naturally start to wonder who will replace them ?

With Angus O'Loughlin already moving to SAFM from the Sunshine Coast to do arvos, was that just a ploy to get him to the station without raising suspicion. Angus was part of the Sea FM breakfast show so he would be a possibility.

or......would Today network wonderboys 'Will & Woody' finally get the chance for a fulltime breakfast gig in a metro market ?

Comment below and have your say.....

And the irony of that photo coincidently fits the story with the looks on their faces.

Will & Woody seem to be an unpopular choice based on comments to the SAFM facebook and Adelaide Now website.
Jason McLean(19:52pm 03 Aug 2012)
Betcha my private parts Angus ends up on breakfast.

"2 to leave", "major changes". This is the language of press releases, not news. Sounds to me like they were sacked, and you should say so.
jules(20:33pm 04 Aug 2012)
I would have thought the first line saying they've been 'cut' made it pretty clear that they were fired.
Mark Hales(21:22pm 04 Aug 2012)
Jules - the first line was adjusted after the comment by Anonymous. Thanks.

Adelaide is crying out for local talent to be given a go, not the constant importation of interstaters. It's probably a bit beneath Adelaide boy Sam Mac these days, but he would be perfect. Haven't heard much about Speedy from NXFM moving to SAFM, which happens today. What shift will he take?
stevo(12:02pm 08 Aug 2012)
what a joke i will definately never listen to safm again. to cut craig and rabbit is a joke.
No Commercials(20:39pm 08 Aug 2012)
I would never listen to SAFM!
Marta(13:50pm 20 Aug 2012)
Such a dissappointment! I absolutely adore Rabbit's Gotcha Calls and Craig is hilarious. I think that SAFM's decision was stupid. I also admire Hayley, however, I prefer Rabs and Craig over her; I also believe that majority of the listeners would agree!

Angus O'Loughlin is a definite possibility, I've heard rumours of Leigh Sexton from My Kitchen Rules (now that would be a poor decision!)

Hopefully the newcomers aren't so new.. Jack, Christian and Cale all work at SAFM and don't have their own permanent shifts - any one of them would fit the bill perfectly.
Bruno(16:55pm 20 Aug 2012)
what about Angus and Nick gill?
jackie mortimer(20:52pm 22 Aug 2012)
I cant believe they didnt renew the guys contracts, the guy are assest to the breakfst team& i think you acted in haste. The latest polls say something else.Bad Move!
Paula(22:21pm 03 Sep 2012)
I think sacking Rabbit & Craig was the dumbest move ever. Rabbit used to have me in stitches laughing every morning with his gotcha calls. SAFM won't be the same without the two boys. Hayley is fine but it would've made more sense to sack her & get a new sidekick. Can't see me staying with SAFM now.

Hayley should have been the one to go instead

Radio is always about changing deck chairs on the Titanic. A 'zany' brekky duo gets the chop and is replaced by another 'zany' duo who do the same zany things. Adelaide radio has always been akin to an incestuous merry go round with jocks going from one station to the next...zaniness abounds but originality remains elusive.
