Auckland DJ suspended

Staff Writer

An Auckland radio station, George FM, has suspended its drive announcer Thane Kirby after offensive comments were made by the presenter on his program last week.

Kirby joked about having sex with his unconscious fiancee, Sophia Nash, 'Uncle Bully' style. He commented that the incident happened after Nash had fallen asleep after a hens night.

He laughingly compared what happened to the behaviour of the despised 'Uncle Bully' character from the New Zealand film 'Once Were Warriors'.

George FM is programmed by former Nova 969 Sydney programmer Willy Macalister, and in a statement the company has said:

"A comment was made last week by a George FM announcer which was intended as humour. George FM wants to make it clear that the comment was unacceptable and has taken immediate disciplinary action. There will be no further comment on what is now an employment matter"

Kirby is one of the founders of George FM.
