2CA ‘rebrands’ to 2JAB to encourage vaccinations

Former Editor & Content Director

Canberra’s classic hits radio station 2CA 1053AM will be renamed ‘2JAB’ tomorrow in a bid to encourage the city’s unvaccinated to get the jab.

All staff at the station have already made the commitment to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Throughout the day on Tuesday, 2JAB will provide information about where eligible residents can access the vaccine.

The station said it wants the city to reach the targets that are required to end lockdown, so life can return to “COVID normal”.

“2CA has been the heart and soul of Canberra for 90 years, standing by Canberrans through bushfires, hailstorms, floods and now a pandemic,” Breakfast host Paul Holmes said. “We all look forward to Freedom Day when we can see our families or enjoy a schnitty at our local.”

2JAB program director Chris Beckhouse

Forever Classic 2JAB will be on-air on Tuesday, September 28 on 1054AM, DAB+ radio and across smart speakers.

2JAB sounds like a particular body moment method. I would’ve kept the 2CA name, and change the slogan to “Forever Vax-sic”.

It is not the first time a radio station temporarily changed its callsign to promote a product or cause. 2UE changed its callsign to 2U-Wii to promote the Nintendo game console in 2008, source: https://radioinfo.com.au/news/fairfax-sells-2ues-call-sign-nintendo/.
