Amazon Music launches podcasts in Australia

Podcasts have finally arrived on Amazon Music for Australian subscribers.

Starting today, podcasts across a number of tiers will be available for Australians to listen to, with both new and original titles being offered alongside established local and international titles.

The platform launched internationally last September.

Podcasts can be accessed via a range of sources, including the Amazon Music app, Alexa-enabled smart devices and the Amazon Music website, with all Alexa-enabled devices also allowing for voice control.

Mobile and browser-based applications will also offer curated podcast recommendations for Amazon Music subscribers, while charts and trailers look to showcase the platform’s most popular offerings.

New titles to be added to Amazon Music’s podcasting portfolio include shows from the likes of DJ Khaled, Jake Brennan, John Bishop & Tony Pitts, and investigative journalist Dave Crawley, who will host the Amazon exclusive true-crime podcast Cold.

Craig Strachan, Amazon Music’s head of podcasts for Europe, Australia and New Zealand, said the service is “a superior podcast experience”.

“We’re thrilled to expand podcasts to customers in Australia, bringing our customers more forms of audio entertainment to enjoy with Amazon Music,” Strachan said.

“With this launch, we’re offering customers a convenient podcast listening experience that fits their lifestyle. Our customers will also be able to utilise the voice functionality they know and love with music and Alexa, to now enjoy a superior podcast experience and uncover a brand-new selection of favourites.”

Kate Burleigh, Amazon’s Alexa and devices country manager, expressed her excitement about the bevy of titles available for Australian listeners on the platform.

“We know that Aussies love podcasts, and we’re really excited that customers in Australia can now listen to podcasts on Amazon Music,” Burleigh said.

“Additionally, podcast fans with Alexa-enabled devices will be able to use the power of their voice to access them.

“From home-grown Aussie talent such as Hamish & Andy and Shameless, to US hit The Vaping Fix, it’s now easier than ever to be educated, entertained or inspired by voices from across Australia, and the world.”
