Life Uncut edges into top 5 in Australian Podcast Ranker

The iHeartPodcast Network’s Life Uncut with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne has climbed into the top five in the Australian Podcast Ranker.

It swapped placed with Schwartz Media’s 7am, which slipped to sixth place.

The rest of the top five remained unchanged, with Audioboom’s Casefile True Crime holding onto #1, iHeartPodcast’s Stuff You Should Know in #2, LiSTNR’s Hamish & Andy in #3 and ARN/iHeartPodcast’s The Kyle & Jackie O Show in #4.

For the measurement period of April, Casefile True Crime and Hamish & Andy released just four episodes, while Life Uncut had eight, Stuff You Should Know produced 17, and The Kyle & Jackie O Show had 84.

Aside from The Kyle & Jackie O Show, the highest-ranking radio catch-up podcast SEN Breakfast, which with 170 episodes climbed one spot to #12, followed by ARN Melbourne’s Jase & PJ, which dropped one spot to #15 with 47 episodes.

Sports-focused podcasts were big movers this month as various sporting codes hurtle towards the pointy end of the season.

Triple M Footy AFL had 118 episodes and was up 24 spots to #10, while Triple M Rocks Footy NRL had 150 episodes and climbed 22 spots to #21.

A few podcasts also returned to the ranker after a brief absence. Hamish & Andy’s Remembering Project’s three episodes put it in 26th spot, Fifi, Fev & Nick’s catch-up Fox FM Breakfast show was in #76 with 48 episodes, and Carrie & Tommy’s 192 catch-up podcasts enabled it to sneak into #98.

The Australian Podcast Ranker said there were 48.2 million podcast downloads in the month of April, down slightly on the peak of 50.0 million last month, but well up on April 2020’s 33.8 million.

There were no changes to the top five publishers. The iHeartPodcast Network had 12,286,895 monthly downloads from 380 podcasts, while SCA’s LisTNR remained in second with 8,219,096.

NOVA Entertainment climbed two spots to #6, surpassing both Wondery and Nine.

The ranker is an industry initiative and is published by Triton Digital in accordance with IAB Tech Lab’s Podcast Measurement Guidelines.

Participating publishers in the Australian Ranker include ARN/iHeartMedia, Audioboom, Babyology, Diamantina, Kinderling Kids Radio, News Corp Australia, Nine, Nova, Podshape, Schwartz Media, Southern Cross Austereo, Sports Entertainment Network, Stitcher Media, TOFOP Productions, Wavelength Creative, West Australian Newspapers, and Wondery.
