SAFM’s Bec, Cosi & Lehmo launch their own shiraz to help SA wine industry

SAFM’s Breakfast show Bec, Cosi & Lehmo has launched its own wine to raise funds for the South Australian wine sector.

Created in partnership with ShowBlock Wines, the Bec, Cosi & Lehmo Shiraz is available to purchase in bottleshops and online, with all proceeds going to local wine producers impacted by China’s wine export tariffs.

After China imposed the wine export tariffs on Australia in August 2020, several South Australian wineries have experienced a slump in overall sales and a backlog of stock.

Sarae Adamopoulos of ShowBlock Wines in McLaren Vale noted the difficulties the sector is facing.

“We are still in vintage, we are still picking grapes, but there’s so much backlog, but we just have to keep going, it’s an extremely expensive process,” Adamopoulos explained.

“We had planned to send 44 containers to China this year, that’s a lot of wine, that’s a lot sitting on docks and in our warehouse.”

SAFM’s Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello said that the Breakfast team was happy to use their platform to raise awareness of the economic impact of the tariffs upon the local wine sector.

“When China introduced tariffs on SA wine it crushed many in the wine industry. I am very passionate about helping growers and wineries through this period,” Cosi said.

“We are asking SA to drink the wine that China said they do not want. I am very confident South Aussies will embrace this by buying up on wine. It’s wonderful we can use our position in the media to help move this backlog of our world class local drops.”

The Bec, Cosi & Lehmo Shiraz can be purchased online or at South Australian liquor stores.
