Shake-up at Triple M Sydney: Mornings presenter Becko departs

Former Editor & Content Director

Triple M Sydney’s Mornings presenter Chris ‘Becko’ Beckhouse is no longer with the network.

Beckhouse has been with Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) for over two decades in on-air and producing roles spanning Brisbane’s B105, Perth’s 92.9 and Melbourne’s Fox FM. He joined Tripe M in Sydney in September 2009 and until recently was the program manager and Mornings announcer.

Radio Today understands a short email went out to Triple M staff on Friday detailing Beckhouse’s departure.

An SCA spokesperson responded to Radio Today’s queries with a statement:

“After 22 years with SCA, Chris Beckhouse has resigned from his gig of Mornings Announcer on the Triple M Network – we wish him all the best on an exciting new phase in his career.

“We will commence recruiting for a replacement for in the coming weeks – so watch this space.”

Radio Today understands Triple M Sydney Breakfast anchor Chris ‘Pagey’ Page has also been absent from the network, with ‘Brendo’ filling in this morning.

An SCA spokesperson, however, told Radio Today that Page is simply on leave.

Radio Today attempted to reach both Page and Beckhouse for comment.

Maybe poach Ugly Phil from WS FM to return to Triple M as he doesn’t fit the WS FM audience and music format.

The best in the business. No one more passionate about live music and a good time! Love ya Becko.

Hey, our breakfast show has died in the arse and the workday music sucks…. I know!! Let’s brush the mornings guy! That’ll fix it!

Becko’s one of the loyalist hard working guys on the air. 22 years of putting up with SCA’s carp is a tough slog.

This is the second one of these “changes” in the last few months. Something stinks here.

huh?

Why mess with Triple M? It’s the one thing working for SCA in Sydney.

Maybe don’t comment on things you have absolutely zero knowledge or understanding of.

Poor old Becko, luckily Pagey and Brendo are still around, maybe Hutsy or Lutsy or Ditsy and Fitsy could get a call up, but i hear, Billy and Dilly are in the mix

Huh? Triple M is working in Sydney?
– It is 5th FM (out of six commercial FMs) with 10- 17 year olds
– 3rd with 18-24 year olds
– 6th with 25 -39 year olds
– 4th with 40 – 54 year olds

But I know, I know……..they are No.1 with men aged 32 who drive blue utes, own two Eskies and can consume four beers on the flight between Sydney and Melbourne.

Chris is an exceptional broadcaster. I’d would wish him good luck… but he doesn’t need it.

Becko is one of the most passionate and best in the business. Congratulations to whichever station picks him up next!

What a shit generic corporate email for 22 years of service! Good decision to move on Becko. Can’t wait to see the next move.

Huh?

@Demographics

That’s still streets ahead of where 2Day is. SCA’s strategy has always been to have 2Day at number 1. Triple M being in the middle of the pack is what they want.

As a side note I just don’t think there’s room in the market for 3 CHR stations in Sydney.

I’ve stopped listening to the MMMs in Sydney completely.

Moon man has ruined breakfast, it’s so repetitive with the same jokes 2 or 3 times a morning and then a pile more during the day.

And in Melbourne I’ve stopped listening down there too. As a victorian originally and growing up with Timbo and Bedders, then the Cage, and also Eddie (but not the short stint with Peter Hellier!) it’s disappointing that Triple M no longer has any shows that I listen to.

@ buddybuddy just dealing in facts.

How in anyway is mmm Sydney in good shape at the moment? How is punting Becko going to help a breakfast show that’s trending downward, a workday trending downwards and a station trending downwards?

I’ll wait…. I mean you’ve got all the knowledge and understanding. Enlighten us all.

Have a bit of respect for someone who’s held a gig in radio at the one network for 22 years. If that’s not loyalty, then I stand corrected.

I think buddyboy was trying to say you have no clue about the reasons for Chris’ departure. It was his decision and is on a personal note. Nothing to do with ratings. Nothing to do with being fired. All the best Becko. Thoughts are with you.

@Bruce well they probably need to stop with the generic looks like we punted someone but made it look like they wanted to leave type vibes. I’ll pipe down till we get the real story.

Something still stinks.

@Huh?
Yeah of course… middle of the pack is just what SCA would be aiming for MMM Sydney being one of their major network assets. No point aiming any higher than that is there? LOL. Thanks for your insight.
As I posted recently elsewhere … Mooney is an embarrassment for 2MMM. Unfunny mostly and still failing after several years. He’s escaped harsher judgement so far only because of the utter debacles in breakfast at sister 2Day.

What an absolute Legend! I was fortunate enough to get to work with Becko for nearly 6-years in my radio days and loyal doesn’t even begin to describe what he’s been to Triple M. If you think you could be half as passionate about billboards look me up old friend!

Going to miss Brendo he was a great DJ on the M’s. I had a chance to chat to him between songs a couple of weeks ago when I first heard the home of rock play “I want my MTV” white the word “Fagot” blocked out which was the last day I listened to the M’s after 40 years.
Shame MMM Shame.
Just look what happened to 2GB with its WOKE direction.

I have personally met Becko on more than one occasion & even done work for him. He is one of the most down to earth guys I’ve ever met. MMM, you have made a huge mistake letting him go. Becko, I love ya brotha. Good luck wherever you end up. They will be gaining an absolute legend of a bloke. Regards, Marcus of Concord.
