Ben & Liam to be trapped in Rundle Mall for mental health

Nova 91.9’s Breakfast hosts Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton will be locked up inside a glass structure for the entirety of the week to help raise awareness for mental health.

The stunt, which the duo first performed on the air for Fresh 92.7 in 2016, places the pair inside a custom-built glass cage in the middle of Adelaide’s Rundle Mall, where they’ll eat, sleep and broadcast live until Friday, June 25.

Viewers can also access a live stream from inside the structure via the Nova 91.9 website.

The duo aims to draw parallels to the feeling of being trapped inside your own head, and are reaching out to locals to share their own experiences with mental health challenges.

Ben & Liam will also call for donations over the course of the week, with all money raised going to Lifeline Adelaide to assist its efforts in helping callers with their own personal issues.

The Breakfast hosts said they hoped the stunt would create important conversations.

“We’re both so passionate about the importance of looking after your mental health,” they said.

“Like most people, we have loved ones who have issues with their mental health and we’ve seen what can happen when it’s not given the attention it needs. We really hope that we can start conversations all around the state.

“Conversations that will inevitably help people who are struggling.”

Jo Cooley, Lifeline Adelaide’s service manager, said that the stunt serves as “a great reminder” for listeners to initiate discussions around mental health.

“Lifeline Adelaide is really grateful to Ben & Liam for starting an important conversation about mental health and wellbeing,” Cooley said.

“We can’t stress enough the importance of seeking help if you feel you need it. This is a great reminder for people to reach out and connect with friends and family as well as to check in with people that you think might be struggling.

“Connection is key to our wellbeing. We want to take this opportunity to remind anyone who is feeling overwhelmed that Lifeline is here to offer you support and we’re ready to listen.”

Didn’t they already do this exact thing like 2 years ago?

Huston S and I read the article, you are missing the point, it is not a stunt or whether they have done this before, it is Mental awarness and raising much needed funds for life line and the boys contribution. Mental awareness and support is not a one off exercise. Keep up the great work Ben and Liam.

Nice work boys. These two are a lot of fun but show their serious, caring side too.
A great effort this week.
