Dane Swan dumped from KIIS 101.1 gig as he claims ‘the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze’ anyway

Editor & Content Director

Retired AFL player turned podcaster and media personality Dane Swan will no longer appear as a regular guest on KIIS 101.1’s Breakfast show in Melbourne.

Swan was announced as a regular on the show back in January, however he told his podcast Hump Day with Swanny & Friends that the station recently called his manager’s manager to say he was no longer required.

Swan said he wasn’t sure if the shake-up was due to his own behaviour, or the show going in a new direction with new co-host Lauren Phillips.

“They rang me….I think it was… after my Tweet, when I used the word cunt…. I think it was maybe turning up drunk, or not turning up at all, or turning up on a Monday morning with my sunny disposition at like 6:30am,” he said on the podcast.

Swan didn’t appear overly disappointed with his ousting, claiming he was about to pull the pin anyway, as an early Monday morning media appointment did not suit his lifestyle.

“The juice wasn’t worth the squeeze,” he said, adding later that “it ruins your weekend”.

Swan said he’d enjoyed working with hosts Polly ‘PJ’ Harding and Jase Hawkins, however he did mention on multiple occasions that he had not heard from either of them since being dropped.

“To be fair, I enjoyed the five minutes I was on air with them. They were all very nice people,” he said.

“Not one of them have messaged me or spoke to me,” he said, adding that he “must have been a real arsehole” to have deserved this treatment.

Swan did claim that ARN had told his manager’s manager they wold love to work with Swan in some capacity in the future.

ARN was contacted for comment and clarification around Swan’s ousting.

A spokesperson, however, would only comment on the future direction of the show and pointed to new contributors.

“We were excited to finally announce this week that KIIS 101.1 has an all-new breakfast team with Lauren Phillips and Jase Hawkins and have had a wonderful response to the news from our listeners and advertisers. Very soon we’ll be announcing others who will be joining the team ahead of Jase & Lauren in the Morning starting on Monday, August 9.”

I love that Dane’s manager has a manager.

No big loss

Not heard from either of them?

Clearly Dane doesn’t realize there is a lot going on in Jase’s personal life right now.

Reaching out to a footballer who turns up drunk on their show isn’t really a priority…

Kiis 101.1 – you did the right thing.

No big loss.

Good move from a radio station. Any footy player who uses the C word should be let go

Between PJ finishing up and Jase dealing with that and some deeply tragic personal things, you’re hardly their priority, Swanny. The fact that he didn’t put that together or showed so little interest in their lives combined with barely grunting out a sentence when he was on shows he was never really interested to begin with.

Ummm

Rocking up drunk, or not turning up at all…
Giving a VERY bad performance every time, then claims he’s surprised none of the hosts have reached out. Don’t respect the gig, you don’t deserve respect back.
What a brat.
