Daniel ‘Gawndy‘ Gawned pays tribute to radio legend Richard Marsland

Sea FM‘s Gawndy spent time reflecting on the tragic death of media personality Richard Marsland this week.

After seeing a powerful tribute by Peter Helliar on The Project in which he addressed mental health issues and Marsland’s death, Gawndy and co-host Ash Pollard went deeper into the matter on their Breakfast show.

He was “a great mate of mine,” said Gawndy. “A very talented guy, a guy that everybody loved.

“10 years ago he took his own life… it was on the day of the last radio show for that year,” recalling when he was eating breakfast with Pete and Richard on the day.

Gawndy recalled that there were very few signs that Richard may have been struggling, so he and Ash used the break to encourage others to check on their mates.

“Today, stop talking and listen. If you ask someone ‘are you okay?’… then really, really listen,” said Ash, who explained her uncle had also taken his own life.
