ARN and iHeartRadio revive Elf Radio ahead of schedule

Former Editor & Content Director

ARN has announced its Christmas-themed iHeartRadio station Elf Radio has come back a month early.

Traditionally, “The North Pole’s #1 hit music station” has rolled out in late November in the lead up to Christmas.

ARN, however, said Christmas had come early in 2021 because “frankly, it needs to”.

It is the 12th year of Elf Radio, which is available on DAB+ in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, or via the iHeartRadio app, including via smart devices.

This year’s playlist will feature the likes of Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey, as well as newer hits from Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, Rob Thomas, Paul Kelly, Gwen Stefani, Sia and Justin Bieber.

iHeartRadio’s local content director, Brett ‘Nozz’ Nossiter – also ‘chief elf officer’ – has previously told Radio Today that Elf Radio’s enduring popularity is due to people’s love of Christmas, tradition, nostalgia and bopping around the Christmas tree.

“After a challenging 2021 we’re all looking forward to Christmas, a special time of the year, so iHeartRadio is calling it early, and calling it now. Erect the tree, hang the mistletoe, and fire up the light display. We’re live with Elf Radio, The North Pole’s #1 Music Station, Christmas is officially a go on iHeartRadio Australia,” he said of this year’s launch.

Elf Radio was awarded Radio Today’s DAB+ Station of the Year in 2020.

It’s all very well to switch it in early, but it’s not acceptable to finish early. Christmas officially finishes on Jan 6 and elf is already gone from dab, the iHeart app and on line in late December!
