Erin Phillips takes over Jodie Oddy’s spot on Mix 102.3 Breakfast

Former Editor & Content Director

Mix 102.3’s Breakfast show for 2021 has been confirmed by the Australian Radio Network (ARN), with Erin Phillips taking over the spot vacated by Jodie Oddy.

Mark ‘Soda’ Soderstrom will continue as co-host, with the duo forming Erin Phillips & Soda For Breakfast.

ARN said it was a fresh way for Adelaide to start the day with the duo bringing “good-hearted fun to listeners every morning”.

Oddy had been with the Breakfast show for over a decade. The program had 81 survey wins, but briefly lost its FM Breakfast crown to the new Ben & Liam offering on Nova earlier this year. It regained the lead in Survey 7, and in the most recent survey, released last week, it was tied with Triple M’s Roo & Ditts for the #1 FM spot on 10.6%.

Despite the long-term performance, Oddy abruptly departed last month.

Since then, speculation as to her replacement has been rife, with Phillips’ name in the mix.

Phillips is an AFLW star and Olympic basketball Silver medallist. She also filled in for Oddy during her recent maternity leave.

Soda said he was excited to welcome Phillips to the team.

There is much more to this down-to-earth Mum of three than just snapping goals and sinking three pointers and I know our fantastic friends of the show will welcome Erin’s enthusiasm and cheekiness,” he added.

Phillips, too, is “excited”.

“I really enjoy working in radio and to be on-air in the city I love is something I’m extremely grateful for. I can’t wait to have a lot of fun with Soda and plenty of laughs with our listeners,” she said.

ARN’s chief content officer, Duncan Campbell, said the “contemporary new direction” for the show was something he knows audiences are going to embrace.

“When we needed to find a new co-host for the show, it made sense to consider people who have been part of the show over the years. Erin and Soda have great energy and we saw really positive engagement from the Mix audience when she was on air. Erin is a great addition to the Breakfast show – she is one of Adelaide’s most-loved sports people, she loves footy, knows all about the juggle of work and family, and she is passionate about supporting the community. Erin and Soda are going to take the Mix breakfast show into the future and we are all looking forward to hearing them on air in January 2021,” he said.

So a station with a female audience just showing how woman who take maternity leave get stabbed in the back. Jodie wouldn’t of left on her own accord so abruptly. Poor form ARN…wonder if soda supported his cohost or pushed for Erin

Not Surprised

Interesting choice. Erin and Soda didn’t work earlier in the year when she filled in. Boring is the word used quite a bit and the show went backwards both surveys she was there

Quite a bit of backlash on the Advertiser and Mix Facebook also. Lot of disappointed listeners now moving stations. Only time will tell.

Could this be the end of Mix’s dominance?

If so you who will benefit? Nova? SAFM? MMM?

So sorry Jodie has left, her caring & down to earth attitude was a delight to wake up to!! Soda is great, but a little concerned the new duo will be a little boring. Good luck Jodie in Whatever you are doing, a big loss for the station & your devoted fans!!

Mix on their FOTS (friends of the station) private Facebook page asking listeners to stay loyal and give the new show a go. Sounds desperate

Wow Mix if you want to talk loyalty let’s talk Jodie’s exit. Not allowed to say goodbye on air. And there is a photo circulating of a cardboard box full of her stuff dumped on her driveway. Stay classy Mix! You’ve lost a loyal listener.

I switched off their breakfast as I was sick of listening to Soda. If they want a new direction bring back Oddy and have Erin and Jodie.

ByeBye

Boring! Didn’t do a very good job last time. Stay with sports Erin. Looks like I need to find another radio station for my drive to work.

What is interesting the amount of listeners so passionate about Jodie. It’s taken over my socials. The response today surely will concern Mix management. And what’s so strange Soda moved on very quickly with no mention of Jodie or did I miss that?

Big mistake! To get rid of Jodie for the boring Erin Phillips! I tuned out when she was filling in for Jodie and now to have her as the “new” co-host…you gotta be kidding…see the ratings go even lower…Jodie was honest.
Funny and sincere..I’m switching for sure..ps surprised Soda didn’t fight harder when they got rid of Jodie….

The news no one wanted to hear

Wow and they said 2021 would be better and you choose Miss boring Erin Phillips to replace Jodie Oddy – what are you thinking. Didn’t work earlier in the year why would it work now. After listening to Jodie for the last 13 years my radio will be tuned to a new station. Can’t wait for another station to snap up Jodie.
