Former triple j Breakfast team Matt & Alex could return to radio

Former Assistant Editor

Former triple j Breakfast host Matt Okine could return to Australian radio alongside his old co-host Alex Dyson.

Okine joined Dyson for triple j in 2014 following the departure of Tom Ballard, and together the two enjoyed a fruitful three years in the role.

Matt and Alex were replaced by current hosts Ben and Liam at the beginning of 2017.

Okine addressed rumours of a return to radio with Dyson on the latest episode of The Ferg Neal Show, saying that “he wouldn’t rule it out.”

He then flagged that should he return to radio, it would likely be with a different station,

“I doubt if we did it it would be with triple j, because we are getting old,” he said.

“You can’t have a bald old guy and a guy who can’t play soccer without dislocating his elbow every 10 seconds running around a youth radio station anymore.”

Since leaving radio Okine has thrown more of his time into his music under the name Boilermakers, as well as writing and starring in his own Stan original TV series The Other Guy.

Dyson returned to triple j over summer for Lunch, and will continue in the slot until Veronica Milson returns from maternity leave to the Drive slot alongside Lewis Hobba  sparking a reshuffle that will see Gen Fricker resume Lunch duties.
