SEA FM grabs top breakfast slot, Hot Tomato retains #1 in Gold Coast survey 3

Sea FM has moved into the top breakfast spot on the Gold Coast, while Grant Broadcasters station Hot Tomato has retained its top position overall this survey, despite a drop of 2.3 share points to 13.8%.

In a vote of confidence for its name change back from Hit to Sea, SCA’s SEA FM scored the biggest gain, up 4.1 share points to 11.9% in radio ratings survey 3, released this morning.

Triple M was in third place, slipping 0.9 to 10.5%.

Triple J came in fourth, down 0.6 to 9.0%, followed by the ABC’s local station ABC Gold Coast, up 0.2 to 4.9%.

The survey was conducted between Sun May 16 to Sat Jul 24 & Sun Aug 22 to Sat Oct 30, 2021. Click the chart to enlarge it.

Sea FM’s Bianca, Dan & Ben grabbed the top breakfast position from Hot Tomato’s breakfast crew, Galey, Emily Jade & Christo.

Hot Tomato breakfast fell 2.1 share points to 12.1% in that timeslot, while SEA gained 4 share points to 12.9%. Hot Tomato won all other shifts.

Hot Tomato has just been sold to ARN as part of last week’s acquisition deal, which will be finalised at the end of this month.

Sea FM won the 10-17 age group, triple j won 18-39s, Hot Tomato won 40-54s, Triple M won 55-64s and ABC Gold Coast won the over 65 demographic.

With Brisbane stations spilling into the market, notable results this survey include ABC Brisbane, which is only just behind the ABC’s Gold Coast local station in audience share, Nine Radio’s talk station 4BC and Nova, all with small but significant listening segments.

Great book for Sea. Similar to what Hot Tomato got last year where they jumped in every daypart.

Hot Tomato is better than those numbers though. I would not be worried if I was Grant Bro…oops ARN.

PS where is Simon on drive for Hot Tomato?

Incoming owner ARN might want to look at the now shabby music scheduling on Hot Tomato.

Grant Broadcasters slashed and burned with a common schedule heard across Hot Tomato, Hot 91 and many other stations. Torv owned Hot Tomato employed a local music director, Simon Dawson and employed music research.

Time to bring that back, program and schedule music specifically for Australia’s sixth largest market. The ad revenue can easily support this.

As for breakfast, the vagaries of audience research see a wild jump for Sea. ARN, as do the Hot Tomato team know that a good spend on outdoor keeps them top of mind with the survey tickers.

Agree with the comment above about the music on Hot Tomato. It’s a shambles and just so inferior to the way it was before Grants took over. Hopefully ARN can improve it?
Prediction – I think we’ll see KIIS 1029 before too long. I hope they go the other way with 97.3 up the road and launch Pure Gold 97.3

The music log on Hot Tomato is the master for:

Hot 91 Sunshine Coast
Star Cairns
Star Townsville
Star Mackay
Hitz Bundy
Power Muswellbrook
Power Murray Bridge
Power Nowra
Power Bega
Magic Port Lincoln
Magic Riverland
Magic Spencer Gulf
7HO
WaveFM

So… guess they all need a refresh.

@Ready now Mr Music :

WTF are you on about? Simon Dawson is still there, doing the same music scheduling stuff.
