Hot Tomato’s ‘Coronavirus Club’ added to radio’s sick list

The Gold Coast’s Hot Tomato 102.9 Breakfast Crew have all contracted Covid, which will delay the team returning until Wednesday, if not later.

Galey, Emily Jade and Christo have been coined as ‘The Coronavirus Club’ by Christo on Twitter after he revealed in a tweet that the three had contracted covid, as well as their producer, news reader and content director.

With the whole team out of action, delays are to be expected.

Radio teams across the country seem to be under threat after it was also reported that Gold 104.3’s Christian O’Connell and Brisbane’s 97.3 FM’s Robin Bailey have also contracted covid, forcing delays to returns.

Christian O’Connell took to Instagram to share his grief.

“I’m not going to be quite right to do the show tomorrow morning,” said O’Connell.

“I’m sorry and pissed off.”

“Seven days in ISO and three days with Covid isn’t a fun hang.”

I know how it feels, I also had to take time off work after contracting covid and let me tell you, it is no joke. It rattled me for a red hot minute with severe shakes, fevers and sweats for the better part of a week.

It was an illness that felt as though it would shape-shift from day to day in an effort to find new ways to keep you sick, so I feel the pain of the impacted teams and wish everybody a speedy recovery.

Luke & Mal for everything

ARN, time to dig deep like a metro and hire Luke Bradnam and Mal Lees for a cameo return to Hot Tomato.

All off radio contracts and available.

First number one shift for the station. Consistently then number one. Perennial ACRA award winner. All without a producer.

Courier a couple of mobile kits to them today for on air tomorrow.

Completely understandable if no deal, unmatched since both on the coast or Brisbane.
