Wollongong’s i98FM on hunt for new Breakfast co-host as Crammy & Lyndal move on

Former Editor & Content Director

i98FM is putting together a new Breakfast show in the wake of the departure of Ryan Cram and Lyndal Rogers.

The two departing team members are set to host Drive on Grant Broadcasters’ 96.5 Wave FM.

This leaves i98’s Marty Haynes without co-hosts, but the network said it’s already on the hunt for someone to join “the region’s most-loved and recognised Breakfast announcer”.

Haynes has been with i98 since 2002. pPrior to that, in the early 1990s, he was a mid-dawn announcer on Sydney’s 2DayFM, and then a Breakfast host on Canberra’s 104.7.

Tia Davis, the station’s manager, said the show’s revamp marked an incredibly exciting time for i98FM.

“It wouldn’t be i98 without Marty Haynes and we are very pleased that he will continue to be part of waking the Illawarra up each day,” she said. “I thank Crammy and Lyndal for their time with us and with them well in the future.”

She added that the station is in the process of implementing a lot of positive changes at i98 – both on and off the air.

“Our goal is to ensure that we are continually diversifying our product while maintaining the high standard of localism, entertainment and news that the Illawarra has come to expect of us. I look forward to the months ahead.”

HOLY SHIT.

Did Wave REALLY steal 2/3rds of i98s breakfast show?

Grants are not messing around.

I wonder which market gets a local drive show next?

@grants fan, you can’t get rid of Nova-lite, QLD would need to work out how to brand a radio station without ripping off nova, and run a promotional tactic that Shaun Heron didn’t create in 2013 (Instagrand anyone?)

Grants finally did it! Good on them! Tbh are things bad at i98 if two members of your breakfast show wanna move to drive at the competition? Haha

Anyone who knows that market knows it’s Marty who gets the recall, Marty is the heritage. These two are good – will they turn the needle, probably not. A great symbol for Grant’s to commit to local but i98 is so strong, this move will see little to no movement…

Exciting market to watch.

@Cant Build Em Buy em

What is being ripped off from Nova? There would be a commercial deal done to take the drive show (which in this case they are dropping). The music format is hot ac and not CHR like Nova. And let’s not get started on radio comps. They’ve all been done by everyone before.

@get off it

The Zinc re-brand to Star sure looked like a copy past of Nova’s Star 104.5.

On comps, the mechanics are generally well tried and tested, but the blatant copy-paste of everything from name down to colour palets is pretty funny. Inspiration is good, plagiarism isn’t.

I’m only catching up on this.

If 2/3rds of your breakfast show leave and you workdays jock are leaving, what’s the culture like there? It seems strange you’d leave a #1 Station.

Marty is a legend, he doesn’t get the credit that people like Pricey in Townsville or Jeremy Cordeax in Adelaide have, for their local work. However what happens within the company to make his co-hosts leave?
