Nova farewells Marty Sheargold with Kate, Tim & Marty tribute

Former Assistant Editor
Marty Sheargold Farewell

The Kate, Tim & Marty Drive show is no more, with Marty Sheargold wrapping up ten years with NOVA Entertainment last Friday (September 11).

As of Monday, September 14, he’ll be replaced by comedian Joel Creasey, who is set to join Kate Ritchie and Tim Blackwell on the popular syndicated national Drive show.

But as was fitting, Shiggsy’s long-time radio mates gave him a brilliant send-off.

To start with, Nova compiled a farewell video featuring friends of Sheargold and of the show, with Adam Gilchrist, Amy Shark, Matty Johns, his producer Jess Bath and associate producer Loren Barry all bidding farewell and giving their well-wishes.

Ritchie, Blackwell and the Nova Network also prepared a 10-minute farewell video, including a trip down memory lane flashing back to when the show began as the Meshel, Tim & Marty on Nova 106.9.

The clip included Shiggy’s emotional decision to depart the show, but also plenty of fun memories like their week in Las Vegas, trip to the UK for the royal wedding, broadcasting from a plane, a train, cutting listeners off, and much, much more.

Kate, Tim & Marty won the ACRA for Best On-Air Team twice and Best Networked Program three times in their time together.

We say goodbye to our mate Marty on the show. Here's some of our favourite moments with the Big Shiggs… ❤️❤️❤️

On his last day at Nova, Marty also did the rounds on the network’s Breakfast shows, including an appearance on Ben & Liam at Nova Adelaide.

After the boys paid their respects to the departing Shiggs, he turned around with some kudos of his own.

“I know how hard you guys are working… Perhaps if Kate, Tim & Joel don’t work out we could be hearing Ben & Liam on Drive in a couple of years time,” Sheargold said.

Should have blown up the show will be no good without Marty. Good news for the fledgling Will and Woody though. ARN should be delighted.

Marty’s who gives a toss attitude will be missed on my drive home from work. It really suited my bad mood at 5pm.
Don’t be too happy Joel!

Thanks for the respect Nova. As always.
I personally had to fight for both Marty and Tim to be hired, and then I had to threaten to jump ship for us to be given drive, but what would I know?
Sounds Different.

Interesting Marty didn’t mention Kate at all.
