Lawrence Mooney slammed for breaking lockdown and telling ‘big, fat, rotten lies’

Former Editor & Content Director

Triple M Sydney’s Breakfast host Lawrence ‘Moonman’ Mooney is in hot water after breaking Sydney’s COVID-19 lockdowns and then feigning confusion about the rules.

The lockdown breach was first revealed by Jonathon Moran at The Daily Telegraph who noted Mooney had left Sydney, contrary to the rules, to holiday in Byron Bay.

Mooney subsequently told Moran he was “very embarrassed” by his misunderstanding.

“I feel like an absolute goose for not realising I wasn’t permitted to travel to Byron Bay during my break,” he said.

Mooney lives in the NSW Southern Highlands and said he believed he was exempt from the travel restrictions. His work at SCA’s World Square offices in the CBD, however, mean the rules did apply to him – a fact Mooney had spoken about on his own show.

On air this morning, fellow Sydney Breakfast broadcaster Ben Fordham pulled up audio of Mooney explaining these exact rules before he took off on holidays.

“Lawrence is telling lies,” Fordham said of Mooney’s claims about being confused by the scope of the rules.

“Busted. Lawrence Mooney, you can’t be serious. You’re telling big, fat, rotten lies, and you know it.”

Fordham said it doesn’t matter if you’re a rugby league player or a radio host – if you get caught, you’ve got to cop the consequences.

“Now I know Lawrence, he’s not a bad person, but he’s had a shocker here,” Fordham added.

Jess is the star of MMM Sydney breakfast. Moonman looks like a self entitled W&@#er

There must have been an emergency meeting at 2GB on how Ben can reclaim the number one spot in breakfast and the strategy appears to be for him to be more aggressive because he has certainly fired up the last few days

“Now I know Lawrence, he’s not a bad person”, Fordham says before going on and badmouthing his friend to the entire city.

I’d love to know how you treat your enemies, Fordham, if that’s the treatment your mates get.

It’s a shame Moonman broke the rules and has copped this negative publicity.

The fact that 2GB are attacking him makes me think that they are aware the show is strong, and has a lot of potential.

The best thing about the show is Chris Page. Pagey is the most underrated person in radio.

He’s the funniest person on that show, quick witted, smart and an incredible broadcaster

Lawrence replies: “Now I know Ben, he’s not a bad person, but he’s had a shocker here,”

I agree with Matt’s comment. Pagey is a hilarious broadcaster

Not coping in lockdown

Triple M just had a “No Talk Day” to support mental health. Lawrence Mooney then ignores health orders so he can go on a holiday. Lockdowns have a negative effect on mental health. Mooney’s actions directly risked extending the lockdown.

Unless SCA take action against Mooney and his selfish behaviour, then Triple M’s “No Talk Day” was just a load of corporate shit.

If SCA need advice on how to act like a responsible corporate citizen, they can look to the NRL who recently dealt with a similar situation.
