Mamamia introduces paid subscription model for premium podcasts & content

Former Editor & Content Director

Some of Mamamia’s audio content will now only be available to paying subscribers.

The publisher will launch MPlus tomorrow, pushing the idea that members get “Extra. Closer.”

Its first MPlus offering is the new longform narrative podcast Extraordinary Stories. The first season, Magazine Queens, will cover four decades of the rise and fall of Australia’s magazine sector with the inside scoop from the women who led the industry in all its glory.

It will feature five episodes. The first two, out from yesterday, are available for free across all the usual podcast platforms. The remainder of the series, however, will only be available to MPlus members.

The podcast features interviews with Ita Buttrose, Paula Joye and more, and is hosted by Emma Gillespie “to document an era like no other”.

In addition, MPlus members will be given extra episodes of the Mamamia Out Loud podcast. Mamamia Out Loud recently announced record listenership and an upcoming live show. Currently, it comes out three times a week for free. MPlus members will get daily episodes.

In addition, MPlus will offer a monthly Book Club podcast, complemented by a members-only discussion with hosts, an exclusive You Beauty video series, discounts and shoppable guides, and “closer conversation” with Mamamia talent including founder Mia Freedman, as well as Jessie Stephens and Leigh Campbell.

Radio Today has not yet received answers to questions around how much subscriptions will cost, or what membership tiers are involved. The Mamamia website says details will be released tomorrow.
