Moonman leaves Triple M Sydney breakfast, takes legal action against SCA

Lawrence Mooney is off the Triple M breakfast show as of today.

Speculation has been mounting that Mooney was on his way out since he was a no show on the program last week.

Mooney began a regular guest on the Triple M Sydney and Melbourne breakfast shows then joined Triple M Brisbane’s breakfast show in 2016, moving to Sydney in 2019, with Jess Eva and Chris Page.

Mark Geyer, who was set to join the show next year, has now begun early in Mooney’s place.

Employment and media lawyer John Laxon, of Laxon Lex  is acting for Lawrence Mooney against Southern Cross Austereo Services Pty Ltd

“My client has a contract which runs through to the end of next year, which SCA has brought to an end.

“The terms of that contract were drafted by SCA and were bargained for and agreed to by my client. He will hold SCA to those terms. All my client asks is that SCA honour the contract and observe the contractual arrangements which they put in place,” said Laxon in a statement to Radio Today.

Seems such strange timing for this to happen after they had just announced MG was joining Moonman next year. They wouldn’t have done that if they were planning to get rid of Moonman. Any speculation as to what has gone down?

I think Mark Geyer is very average talent because all he does is mumble and laugh

That’s a real shame! I listened to the catch-ups via Listnr but I won’t anymore because it’s a totally different show with MG. They suck up to him but he’s not funny or interesting.

@ Sarah: He does mumble at times, but Mark Geyer is a man the Triple M Sydney audience like and can relate too. This (and many other reasons) is why SCA management have not sacked him. He seems to be liked by the wider Triple M audiences to in regional NSW and across most of QLD too as MG has been part of Triple M’s networked Rugby League coverage on weekends during the NRL Season for many years in these parts of Australia. For you to bag out this man like you have is unfair and not necessary.

Triple M, the network that axed “Get This”, a show which they wouldn’t admit in hindsight, was probably the most successful show they ever had.
