NOVA Entertainment welcomes Adam Johnson as Chief Growth Officer
NOVA Entertainment today announced the appointment of Adam Johnson to the newly created role of Chief Growth Officer.
In addition to overseeing NOVA Entertainment’s Brand Marketing and Communications efforts, Johnson will lead the group’s growth in connected audiences through its digital product and content development whilst driving forward NOVA’s data and distribution strategy.
Peter Charlton, NOVA Entertainment’s CEO, spoke of the opportunity Johnson’s appointment provides to extend on NOVA’s market leading strength in all of audio.
“As NOVA Entertainment continues to capitalise on and grow our strategic audio aspirations, Adam’s extensive experience working with some of the world’s biggest media and technology brands, combined with his consumer and data focus, will allow us to continue to grow audience across all our channels, facilitate effective promotion of NOVA’s assets across our platforms and help deliver data and insight about our growing consumer base for our advertisers,” said Charlton.
Adam Johnson said, “There’s never been a more exciting time to join an audio business with the scale and ambition that NOVA has. With brands and personalities that audiences already love, I can’t wait to work with the amazing teams at NOVA to help make and promote more content that people want to spend their time with, delivered on platforms that give our advertisers even more opportunities to connect with their customers.”
With over 17 years business and marketing experience across media, digital and global technology, prior to joining NOVA Entertainment Johnson was based in London in the role of Chief Marketing Officer for Global, one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies.
Responsible for overseeing Global’s activities across the Marketing spectrum, including Brand Marketing, Communications, Customer Support and B2B Marketing, Johnson also led Global’s direct-to-consumer Enterprise division. During his six year tenure Johnson helped deliver record audience figures, pioneered digital audio growth with the launch of Global Player, and integrated out-of-home into Global’s commercial positioning and B2B marketing efforts.
Prior to joining Global, Johnson was the UK Marketing Director for Microsoft’s Mobile Devices division, responsible for the development and delivery of Microsoft’s smartphone Marketing strategy. He spent eight years in Sydney from 2003 to 2011, initially with the creative agencies George Patterson/Y&R before taking on a client-side role at Nokia Australia in 2006.
Adam Johnson joins NOVA Entertainment’s Group Executive team, reporting to CEO Peter Charlton, and starts in his new role today.
Is does this mean that PJ no longer is Head of Marketing ? Why do Nova seem to always hire UK executives ?
I thought they believed marketing was best placed sitting with programming? That’s what the group programmer said n an interview with RT last year
Good luck! Let the battle begin
Obviously cash promotions, TV and billboard campaigns didn’t represent marketing capability after all.
They needed a proper CMO. The last couple of years has been a pretty bland and tactical
Not a good look.
Way too many contradictions and changes in here.

Just another example of working around the biggest issue at Nova. At what point will the bosses understand?
This is confusing, don’t Nova already have PJ looking after marketing and Fayad digital? Anything else you want from the UK? I guess all this disruption in Nova helps ARN and SCA continue to dominate.
SOS – Bring back Cath you need the capable leadership
I really hope Adam is successful in his role but I kind of feel sorry for him given what / who he’s up against.
At least he’s from the UK. That will help
@Deepest sympathies
I think Fayad has left Nova.
That’s embarrassing
So who’s responsible for running smooth stars for its 10th year. Good luck Adam
I can hear champagne corks popping in the marketing department from here
Is this Tony Thomas’s old role ? You have to say that the last Nova TV campaign selling breakfast AND music didn’t work, didn’t get any more ratings points. Away we go, more moves than an Egyptian Belly Dancer.
@Jenny You’re right This is what Jackson quoted in Radio Today just 2 years ago. How can he say this and now be wrong? Must be a performance issue
Talking exclusively to Radio Today, Jackson revealed a number of programming and operational role changes within the Nova Network, which he believes will result in a better and more focussed product.
“I guess that gave the business, at that point in time, a chance to reflect on what the structure could look like,” Jackson told Radio Today. “With Tony going, it was just a chance for us to reassess what the best structure is.
Jackson moves from group program director to chief programming and marketing officer.
“In my previous roles at Capital and Virgin, many, many moons ago now in the UK, we always had marketing with programming
It’s really positive they are recognising the missing in gap with this appointment of a marketing lead and I wish all the best for Adam but unfortunately after two brilliant female marketing leads were made redundant at nova to see another UK male join the exec team is a little disappointing.
I bet HR and legal had a lot of input into this role title and hire!
I remember a time when Nova used to get positive press. What has happened?
Im sure Adam will be asking a few probing questions after reading some of these comments
Is there anyone actually left in marketing at Nova.
Last I heard Nova boy was calling the shots!!
Or was he made redundant too?
@In the Know
He left? So Nova aren’t focused on digital anymore, or going to try again…. can we throw a lifeline to the digital people over there – we’re here to help!
Wouldn’t it be good if those in the communications business used plain English?

Surprise Surprise another Male put into a management role…
Where are all the capable women? Ohh that’s right they got made redundant.
Be better Nova.
@what a joke
Totally agree. There’s a reason great women don’t last in senior roles.
Surely there are some good people in Australia that qualify. Given the role is about understanding the Australian listener too.
