Oh that’s right… the show’s not coming back next year: Mick Molloy

At the end of Mick Molloy’s drive show yesterday he told his audience “there was something I was going to do and, for the life of me, it’s slipped my mind… Oh that’s right, yes, sorry – announce that the show’s not coming back next year.”

With that Molloy put an end to eleven years on Triple M. He will finish in a month.

Mick Molloy first joined Austereo on the Today network with Tony Martin in 1995, hosting the iconic Martin Molloy drive show for four years.

He rejoined the company in 2011 on Triple M’s Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy, then moved to the drive shift in 2017 where he co-hosted with Jane Kennedy. Kennedy left the show last year.

He said on air:

“It’s sad for me because I love this show and I love this team…it just feels like the right time. It’s time to leave my spiritual home for other challenges.

“It’s with a bit of sadness, but I’m also so proud of everything we’ve done and achieved here. I’ve enjoyed working with some great people from Eddie McGuire originally and Luke Darcy, to Jane Kennedy who I just love to bits…I suppose I could include you (Dangerous Dave).

“I’ve had a golden run. I really can’t tell you how happy a time it’s been for me here. I love radio, I love Triple M and I’ll be doing radio again.”

Mick Molloy told the story on air today of how the Head of Triple M Mike Fitzpatrick tracked Mick and his brother down in a hotel in India 11 years ago to get him on board.

Molloy says he will be back on radio some time in the future.

The station is expected to announce a replacement show before the end of the year.

Triple M’s drive show has been scoring in the 6s in Sydney and Melbourne during recent surveys.

Actually Mick first joined Triple M in 1990 as a member of the Kevin Hillier and the D Generation Breakfast Show. He left when they went off to make The Late Show and the odd film or two.

Martin/Molloy was on air for four years and it was on the Today Network broadcast out of The Fox studios, not Triple M.
