Paul Woodhouse replaces Ray Mercer as general manager for Townsville

Former Editor & Content Director

Grant Broadcasters’ Townsville operation has a new general manager, Paul Woodhouse.

Woodhouse joins the home of Power 100 and Star 106.3 from Cairns, where he has been GM for the past three years.

He is replacing Ray Mercer who had been with Grant Broadcasters since 2017, first as sales manager on the Sunshine Coast, and then as general manager for Townsville. Grant Broadcasters told Radio Today Mercer had resigned. His LinkedIn says “watch this space”.

His replacement, Woodhouse, is no stranger to the region, having worked there for a lot of his 22-year stint with Coca-Cola Amatil, including as regional manager for North Queensland.

He said he’s keen to return home.

“I’m proud of what I have achieved in my time in Cairns and excited to have the opportunity to move back home to Townsville. We have a talented team for both Power 100 and Star 106.3, and the time is right for us to forge a stronger engagement in the community as the leaders in local,” he said.

Grant Broadcasters’ state manager across Queensland and the Northern Territory, Matt Chapman, echoed the excitement.

“I am looking forward to having Paul move down the road to Townsville. Paul has done a great job for us in Cairns and looking forward to Paul continuing his success in Townsville. Paul has worked in Townsville for many years prior to moving to Cairns. I know he is excited to reconnect with the Townsville community,” he said.

Woodhouse starts his new role on Monday, June 21.

Grant Broadcasters said it is already on the hunt for someone to replace Woodhouse as general manager in Cairns to look after Star 102.7 and 4CA.
