“I am going to cry…”: Robin Bailey farewells listeners & Triple M crew

Former Publisher

In what felt like one of the most emotional signoffs in Australian radio history, Robin Bailey has farewelled listeners and her Triple M team today (Sep 20).

Bailey announced she would step down last week. She plans to spend more time with her family and husband Sean Pickwell, who was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2017.

“I am going to cry…” confessed Bailey in her final break just before 9am.

“I’m leaving because my wonderful husband Sean has terminal cancer, and we’ve decided we want to spend as much time as we can together with our families.”

This morning Triple M revealed that Margaux Parker will replace Bailey from September 30.

“Margaux’s coming in and she will be a wonderful replacement,” said Bailey.

The station’s publicist told Radio Today that emotions were running high at Southen Cross Austereo’s Brisbane HQ today.

About 125 SCA employees listened to Bailey’s last shift from outside the studio.

Pickwell, a former Southern Cross Austereo executive turned brand consultant, was by Bailey’s side for her farewell show.

The much-loved broadcaster announced her engagement to Pickwell in July 2018, and the pair officially tied the knot four months later in November.

The wedding took place at Newrybar Hall in Nothern NSW just a few short months after Sean proposed at Movie World, with her three sons and Sean’s son and daughter in tow.
