With Spotify and other DSP apps creating stiff competition for radio, Play MPE’s new app is helping radio fight back, and is a huge asset in the toolbox of any music director.

As radio technology has evolved, its key that MDs and tastemakers have improved technical resources when it comes to music discovery.

The new Play MPE Player App is full of innovative new features that not only aid the discovery and streaming of brand new tracks, but provide additional information around the music, as well as new ways to search for music.

“As the digital side of the music industry continues to evolve, improved technical resources are needed to help radio explore, identify, and provide new and interesting music from around the globe,” Play MPE chief executive officer Fred Vandenberg tells Radio Today.

“The accessibility to this music provides audiences with an enriched on-air experience.”

Some of the key new features include:

  • Google Chromecast and airplay capabilities (great for streaming into meetings)
  • A format-based search function
  • Additional promotional information and materials, including tour dates, album artwork and more

The key brief with the new app update, according to Vandenberg, was to provide a streamlined user experience that’s been neglected in the world of radio and music promotion.

“In an era when audiences have broader listening options, providing the radio community with enhanced technologies to access content quickly and efficiently continues to play a vital role in radio remaining the most common means in which listeners are exposed to new music.”

The new Play MPE app is available from the App Store and Google Play, or at plaympe.com
