Sophie Monk: Breakfast radio ‘really messed with me’

Former Editor & Content Director

Media personality Sophie Monk has revealed that whilst she loves radio, her stint on 2DayFM Breakfast took its toll on her.

Monk currently hosts Love Island Australia and Beauty & The Geek on Channel 9, and she’s also gearing up to release new music for the first time in years.

She did, however, previously attempt to fill the void left by The Kyle & Jackie O Show on 2DayFM back in 2014 alongside Jules Lund, Merrick Watts and former Spice Girl Mel B.

“Breakfast radio’s tough,” she told Mitch Churi and Mitchell Coombs on their iHeartPodcast Network podcast Is It Just Me?

“It really messed with me – because we had no ratings either. I remember there was a newspaper for people that are blind, and that got higher ratings than our show. So getting up early to do a shit radio show that early burns you out.”

Monk and her 2DayFM co-hosts were replaced by Maz Compton and Dan DeBuf in 2015.

Monk and Churi – who hosts Nights on KIIS FM – joked that they are both far better at being the “fill-in” person or “substitute teacher” on radio.

“No pressure on you to have a good show,” Monk said.

Monk said she did still love radio, but she loves all the projects she’s involved in.

Businesses across the board don’t really take into consideration the impact that pressure has on employees….management normally say just harden up and get on with it…..push push push, for the sake of business increasing their profits.

People and their health are more important than profits!

Great to see that people like Sofie have stepped away from the pressure and have survived.
