This new IKEA podcast is designed to make you fall asleep

Former Assistant Editor

Just when you think that there’s a podcast for everything, Swedish furniture chain IKEA has blown up our perceptions of what a podcast should be.

IKEA has launched its Sleep Podcast, but it’s not your average meditation or relaxation audio.

It’s 35 minutes of Swedish people listing the names of IKEA products.

From bedroom to storage products, fans of IKEA homewares will be nodding off to dulcet Swedish tones.

The idea hasn’t come out of the blue either, with IKEA having undertaken extensive research into the sleeping habits of Aussies.

It found that 56% of us struggle to get to sleep, and 37% need help getting to sleep.

“As you can hear in the Sleep Podcast, both Sara and I are Swedish and have grown up speaking the names of the IKEA furniture in our day-to-day conversation,” said voice of the podcast and 28-year IKEA employee Ken Eriksson.

“We often get asked by our co-workers the correct pronunciation of IKEA products.”

“The IKEA Sleep Podcast is a unique take on creating background white noise and one of many solutions we hope to provide to help the many Australians get a good night’s sleep,” added country sales manager Mark Mitchinson.

The podcast is produced by Nova National Drive producer Darcy Milne, who also owns propodcastproduction.com which works with brands and individuals to produce, image and launch podcasts.

Darcy holds the 2016 Metro Best Achievement in Production and has worked with radio personalities including Jules Lund, Merrick Watts, Sophie Monk, Will & Woody, Dan and Maz and now Kate, Tim and Marty.

Listen below and get ready to doze off…
