Inside the new multi-million dollar studios for KOFM

Staff Writer

Rock and roll royalty have officially opened KOFM’s new multi-million dollar studios.

Cold Chisel’s Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss dropped by to cut the ribbon with KOFM’s Tanya & Steve, who broadcast from their new studio digs for the first time on Friday.

While the boys were KOFM, they also dropped the news that Cold Chisel will be the headline act, along with Spiderbait, at the first Coates Hire Newcastle 500 Supercar race in November.

“Newcastle has always been great to us,” said Chisel frontman Jimmy Barnes.

“When we were starving in our early days, we would drive up there and fill rooms, long before we did anywhere else. We got to learn our trade playing to wild and appreciative crowds in full rooms there.

“If we owe anyplace anything, it’s Newcastle!”

After nearly 30 years at Charlestown, SCA Newcastle’s two brands KOFM and Hit106.9 will begin broadcasting full-time from their new state of the art studios overlooking Newcastle Harbour at Honeysuckle from Monday 26 June 2017.
