CONFIRMED: Mick Molloy & Jane Kennedy for Triple M drive in 2018

Staff Writer

After months of rumours, Triple M has confirmed that longtime friends and comedy colleagues Mick Molloy and Jane Kennedy will host a national drive show in 2018.

Molloy, from the legendary Martin/Molloy to the No.1 Daytime show Tough Love, has spent the last 7 years on Melbourne’s #1 FM Breakfast show, The Hot Breakfast.

“I can’t wait to get back to my natural habitat on the drive shift. I imagine the show will be a lot like my usual conversations with Jane minus a couple of good bottles of vino,” Mick said.

Jane Kennedy began her career in radio and appeared with Mick on Triple M on the ground-breaking breakfast show The D-Generation. They both went on to write and perform together with the team from the ABC TV classic The Late Show.

Jane says she’s rapt to be working with Mick again. “…I can’t think of anyone better to do Drive with. Plus Micky’s usual excuse of sleeping through the alarm won’t wash anymore!”

Triple M’s first completely national drive time offering will commence on-air in Melbourne in October, followed by Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and over 30 other markets in January next year.

“It’s so cool to have these two exceptional performers on Triple M Drive” said Triple M head of content, Mike Fitzpatrick.

“The stations where we already have local drive shows will now be followed each day by Mick and Jane, giving the Triple M Network a truly national drive footprint”.

Mick and Jane will be an irresistible force delivering a fun and entertaining show that will appeal to audiences right across the country.

SCA sais a new co-host for Triple M’s Hot Breakfast will be announced soon.

What’s this mean for JB & Billy’s Rush Hour?

Very, very interesting news. It will be nice to have Jane Kennedy back on the air. Any alums of D-Gen/Late Show/Working Dog era are a welcome addition to the very dull/samey-samey lineup that is currently “Drive” radio in this country. I also sincerely hope Janey can broker some sort of truce between Mick and Tone too. That would be a coup for the ages and finally bring Tony back to where he needs to be more than ever. Perhaps Management at the MMM’s will finally realise their previous mistakes and put these two comedy titans (and Janey) back into the driving seat. The fundamental issue is that people just aren’t listening to music in the same way they were 10, 15, 20 years ago. Commercial networks have to understand that the landscape has changed significantly, especially in metro markets like Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Programs need to stand out from the pack and hiring quasi-celebrities and dull sports personalities is not a smart move. The reason shows like Martin/Molloy, The D-Generation Breakfast Show and Get This still resonate today is because they were original, hilarious, they spoke to their listener base and they didn’t listen to what the establishment was doing. However, instead of ingenuity or renewed invigoration of a format that can still be viable, we continue to see carbon copies across across all of the commercial networks in Australia and it’s just so bleedin’ tedious. Podcasting is the superior format these days and it should have management terrified.
Anyway, congrats to Mick and Jane. It will be a great show.

So funny, Mick will actually be pumped out to 10+ stations who are actually now in all seriousness ‘tripling the music all day’ – I hope he builds a lawn mower rocket car in the first 3 months and goes on a tall ship adventure by BBQ to Noosa thanks to Supercheap, Charcoal Chicken and Classic HITS the M’s. Here’s Ronan Keating…
