Newcastle Survey 3: David & Tanya leave on top

The third and final survey result for 2013 has been released in Newcastle.

KOFM remain #1 in the market but the gap is much closer to NXFM at #2 (now only 2 points). The departing KOFM breakfast team, David & Tanya, notched up their 50th #1 result as a duo. A fitting end to a long career together in Newcastle. Tanya is staying on the show with a new co-host yet to be announced.

Over at NXFM, all key dayparts are up including Sophie, Heath & Normy in their first survey together. They are up 1.9 to 16.7 and #2. (Sophie filled in for Heidi Anderson while she was on Big Brother and then took over officially when she moved to 92.9).

New FM have also had a good result, going up in all shifts across the station.

KOFM slipped back slightly, down 1.5 10+ to be on 18.7%.

Their only demo increase came through 25-39's (up 1.7) and lost 4 points in both 18-24 and 40-54 (still #1).

All shifts lost share this survey but they remain #1 in all of them aside from drive where NXFM is now in front and on weekends where they are level with NX.

At NXFM, the new breakfast combo of Sophie, Heath & Normy (right) had a solid increase of 1.9 (now 1.7 away from KOFM), they also increased share in mornings (2.7), arvos (1.0) and drive is now #1, up 1.6. Nights lifted 1.2 to be #2 on 14.7%.

They had increases in 10-17's (up 5.6), 18-24's (up 6.5) and 40-54's (up 4.6). The only demo they lost ground in was 25-39's but they stay #2 slightly behind triple j.

New FM is the other main winner from this survey, up the most 10+ (2.1) and are now knocking on the door of double digits and are level with 2HD on 9.9%. All shifts on New were also up. Breakfast up 1.4, mornings up 2.4, arvos up 2.7, drive up 1.8, nights up 2.0 and weekends up 2.6.

Their main increases came in every demo over 18. 18-24's up 3.7, 25-39's up 3.9, 40-54's up 2.5 and 55-64's up 4.2.

triple j are down 0.4 to 10.7 but are now 3rd in the market behind KO and NX. They lost audience share in all demos under 40 but remain #1 25-39. Breakfast dropped to 9.5% (down 1.1) while mornings were down 0.6 and arvos up 1.3. Drive was down slightly, nights was flat.

ABC Local Radio is down 0.9 to 10.2% and now 4th. They lost audience in 40-54's and also 65+ where they are now 2nd to 2HD.

The breakfast shift remains 3rd, up another 0.7 to 14.5%. The ABC lost out in every other shift, going down across the board but especially at night where they went down 6.0 taking them from =1st to 4th.

2HD gained more ground this survey, up 0.6 to 9.9% and are level with sister station New FM. While they became the #1 station 65+, going up 4.8, they lost 4.2 with 55-64's and dropped behind the ABC in that demo.

Afternoons was the only shift to lose share while breakfast was up 0.9, breaking into double digits. Lawsy in mornings was also up 0.9 to 16.3% and the other standout being nights, up 1.5 to 15.8% and 2nd.
