Edison Research has expanded their Infinite Dial survey, with the latest data indicating that almost three-quarters of Australians are familiar with podcasting.

Results from the survey of over 1,000 Australians aged 12 years and over indicates revealed that not only are we engaging with podcast content more than ever before, we are also diversifying our interests, consuming on average six podcasts per week.

Local podcast platform Whooshkaa has consolidated key podcast-related findings from the study, showcasing the medium’s growth in Australia – which looks to be following the same rapid trajectory as the United States.

Other key points to come out of the study include:

  • 17% of Australians listen to podcasts monthly
  • 87% of listeners consume most or all of the show
  • Listening while travelling (either by private car or on public transport) accounts for 48% of all podcast consumption

“As Australian audiences grow, advertisers and brands are getting involved through high quality, targeted ad campaigns and branded podcasts – that place the audience first,” Whooshkaa founder and CEO Rob Loewenthal said.
