Sydney will wake up with Em Rusciano and Ed Kavalee in 2018

Today on the Em Rusciano radio show with Harley Breen, it was announced Ed Kavalee will be joining the show in 2018.

Rumours were circulating last week, with multiple sources telling Radio Today that current co-host Harley Breen had walked away from the job.

Em’s new co-host is known for his lightning fast comedy and improvisation skills and is Australia’s ‘Jack of All Media Trades’. He is a familiar face to Sydney audiences, as a recurring panellist on Channel Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention? and as a former host of the Marto, Ed & Robin breakfast show on Triple M Brisbane, Ed is no stranger to breakfast radio.

The Hit Network’s Head of Content Gemma Fordham, on Ed joining the team: “He’s superbly talented and we know the Sydney listeners will love the addition of Ed to the show.”

Ed Kavalee on joining the breakfast show: “I’m very excited to join The Hit Network and the 2Day FM Sydney Breakfast show with Em. Bring on 2018. We are really looking forward to it. I just hope my old room at my share house on Cleveland street is still available.”

Em Rusciano on her new co-host: “I’m bloody pumped to have the talented, funny and clever human that is Ed Kavalee joining the show in 2018. As long as he doesn’t object to me blatantly using the show to sell my comedy concerts (‘Evil Queen’ tour on sale now!), books (My Memoir: ‘Try Hard’ is on sale now!) and musical downloads (New single ‘Brand New Day’ out now!) – we’re going to get along just fine. Bring on 2018, I’m excited, it’s going to be low key hectic.”

Harley Breen will be finishing up on the 2Day FM Sydney Breakfast Show at the end of the year. Harley has enjoyed the ride alongside co-host Em Rusciano, but has decided to have a sleep-in in 2018. Breakfast hours are tough at the best of times, let alone partnered with a young family, so he’s decided to hand over the mic to Ed Kavalee.

Gemma Fordham said, “Harley has been a terrific Ying to Em’s Yang and he’ll continue to be a friend of the show. We love Harley and wish him all the best.”

Sydney, get ready to be entertained as 2018 looks set to be a great year for the 2Day FM Breakfast show with Ed by Em’s side.

Will Ed be broadcasting from Melbourne like Em. He did for his last Brisbane show. That’s bad luck if he his shame.

Another Melbourneite doing a show out of Melbourne. Doesn’t Sydney have any good jocks ?

Ed didn’t rate in Brisbane so why would he work in Sydney. Moving the deck chairs around on the titanic it sounds like to me.

As two unique entertainers, styles off the air are very different. It will be very surprising if this is a long running success story. What has happened to the old days of radio strategy from great programming heads inside SCA?

The show is still being broadcast from Melbourne into Sydney. So it won’t work. Neither of the pair are good on air, Sydney has plenty of good announcers they could have utilised. The show is rating lower than Roves last year and he was axed. Didn’t listen to him neither…..

Another master stroke from 2Day.
Ed Kavalee isn’t just a very talented comedian, he’s also easy on the eye for the ladies (and some blokes!)

@Wayne.. I’m curious as to how one can say with authority ‘neither of the pair are good on air’ when they freely admit to not actually listening to the show? I do listen and think Em & Harley are great.. and if you listened to the clip this morning, you’d have heard how good (and quick-witted) Ed is too. Could the show have a bigger presence in Sydney? Probably wouldn’t hurt. But as you rightly pointed out, Rove (and all the previous post-K&J breakfast shows) broadcast from Sydney and didn’t set the world on fire either. I am interested to hear though who the good announcers in Sydney are that could’ve/should’ve got the gig instead.. (and that is a legitimate question – I am actually curious to know).

Sydneysiders getting a taste of their own medicine for inflicting years of networking on us? Lol irony …it’s a crime that the networks have been able to get away with networking in metro markets…. unfortunately it’s a bean counters world…. what happened to The much vaunted SCA talent pipeline???

I don’t think this will lift the ratings at all. Ed’s talent has been to surround himself with genuinely funny people like Tony Martin, provide content ideas and move the show forward – that’s why his podcasts are so good (and much better than his Triple M Brisbane show). However as a ‘personality’ he is not entertaining without his posse of talent and I can’t see his style working with Em.

Broadcasting from Melbourne both of them.

Sorry but Ed didn’t work well here in Brisbane so as if he will work in Sydney. Doesn’t really suit that market.

There is only one man who could put up with Em. That’s Hughesy. He’d do anything for money. Top bloke though.

Can anyone remember all the Em and Harley bus shelter ads that were plastered all over Sydney this year? I am interested to know if the chicken that featured in the ads will be back in 2018? Any news on the chook? Was the chook from Sydney or Melbourne?

Whether the show comes out of Syd or Melb – the few thousand people wont care… The listeners listening to 2Day FM are now just a protest vote to Nova and KIIS.

There is no game changer here. Ed is a nice guy. ‘Nice’ wont force a change in the dial. Sydney is over it. Why try connect with a show when its likely to change inside 6-9 months. Lost so much trust.

Gemma has just more spin for a mess she has created. It just goes on and on… its embarrassing.

I don’t see this working – Em has a very unique sense of humour and I can’t imaging these two on the same page. And of course the question becomes – did Harley jump or was he pushed? SCA Management would have wanted some star power on the Sydney breakfast show given Ed’s appearance on HYBPA. The spin says jump but I suspect the truth was a gentle tap on the shoulder…

I’m normally more than happy to throw shade at 2day FM- but I think this is an ok move.
At least people know who Ed is.

I for one think this is a genius move by SCA and that the show has the potential to be number 1 … said no one ever.

That time of the year already? OK everyone, you know the deal.. when 2Day changes breakfast lineups, everyone changes their smoke alarm battery.

One Question – Why are SCA throwing big name bandaids on their SYDNEY breakfast show when they should be finding, new, endearing FUNNY new talent that the sydney market is FULL OF. They Claim to have a ‘Talent Pipeline’ That leads straight to the sewer. Kyle + Jackie O weren’t established on Hot 30 days, and look at them now – Don’t start for stars. Find the coal and over time turn them into a diamond. Wow that was poetic.

Clever and very manipulative resigning on air. Em will be hoping for a spike for the ratings. Good stunt. Nice try.

Perhaps you should all listen to the actual audio – he quit last week, and his bosses were wanting the news to come out later in the year.

Em referred to a radio website – this one, Radio Today – having the gossip and about to print it, so they wanted to get in first so their listeners had the chance to hear it first.

He did not quit on air suddenly, or take his bosses by surprise. FACT.

When will SOMEONE put this show out of its misery?! Another co-host won’t help when we all know what the problem is.

Replace Em Rusciano and get Tony Martin on board with Ed Kavalee and 2DayFM might have a chance. It’s time to bring back ‘Get This’.
