Casefile True Crime takes top spot on Australian Podcast Ranker

Staff Writer

International title Stuff You Should Know has been knocked off the top spot on the Australian Podcast Ranker by Audioboom’s local production Casefile True Crime.

The podcast has been running since 2016 and says “fact is scarier than fiction”.

The anonymous host of Casefile said: “The Casefile team are so pleased to be the number one dowloaded podcast for November. It’s a fantastic way to finish off what’s been a tough year for everyone and it’s a testament to the tireless work our team put sin every day. Thank you so much to our listeners, your support is what keeps us going.”

Previous chart-topper Stuff You Should Know took out second spot, ahead of PodcastOne Australia’s Hamish & Andy which held onto third.

AFL Trade Radio from SEN (up three spots), and The Kyle & Jackie O Show rounded out the top five.

Hamish Blake and Andy Lee’s other podcast, Hamish & Andy’s Remembering Project soared 20 places to come in at 10th. The twice-weekly podcast looks back on the duo’s radio career as they attempt to remember what happened during a random talk break based on the runsheet. Old snippets of the show are then played for listeners.

Other big movers include PodcastOne Australia’s Matt & Alex All Day Breakfast which was up 17 spots to 23, and SCA’s The National Briefing which was up 27 places to 36.

PodcastOne Australia’s Just The Gist, which won the Australian Podcast Award for Best Entertainment Podcast was up 19 spots to 55.

On the Australian-only list, Christian O’Connell’s side project with ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network Stuff Of Legends debuted at 89th.

ARN and the iHeartPodcast Network remained the top podcast publisher, according to the ranking, with 10,830,137 downloads in November.

SCA / PodcastOne Australia was in second with 7,939,694.

Participating publishers in the Australian Ranker include ARN/iHeartMedia, Southern Cross Austereo, News Corp Australia, Audioboom, Stitcher, Wondery, Nova, Nine, SEN / Crocmedia, Schwartz Media, TOFOP Productions, Kinderling Kids Radio, Australian Radio Network, Wavelength Creative, NBC News, West Australian Newspapers, and Fear and Greed. Additionally, as of the August 2020 Australian Podcast Ranker, Nine Radio has been expanded to include podcasts from Nine’s digital and publishing divisions.
