Cairns radio personalities will find out where their stations rank in attracting listeners, with the release today of official industry radio ratings.

The competitive Far North Queensland radio market has undergone big changes since the last survey was released in June 2016; Hot FM and Sea FM rebranding to Hit103.5 Cairns and Triple M Cairns, respectively.

Star 102.7 and 4CA are also commercial radio stations innovating in the market.

The Cairns survey is part of an initiative by the radio industry to measure radio audiences across regional Australia this year.

The research was conducted by Xtra Insights from 15 May – 3 June with a sample size of 1,200 participants.

“The ratings provide valuable feedback from listeners that helps radio stations to monitor their performance and continue to improve their programs and offerings,” said Joan Warner, chief executive officer of industry body Commercial Radio Australia.

Commercial radio stations in Cairns serve a population of more than 139,000 people aged 10+.

Cairns is the thirteenth regional survey to be released in 2017, following Mackay, Port Macquarie/Kempsey, Ballarat, Launceston, Emerald, Dubbo, Mandurah, Wheatbelt, Esperance, Kingaroy, Mount Isa and Roma.

Radio surveys for Albury and Coffs Harbour will also be released in June.
