Are Grant Denyer & Yvie Jones testing for a regular radio gig?

Could former 2DayFM Breakfast host Grant Denyer and former Gogglebox star Yvie Jones become the next Fifi & Fev or Jonesy & Amanda?

The pair are broadcasting Summer Breakfast across the Hit Network, which could act as a springboard for future gigs.

The most recent word out of Southern Cross Austereo is that the network will continue with Jamie Angel’s Music For Breakfast show next year… but are Denyer and Jones being warmed up for 2Day Breakfast in 2021 or beyond?

Another possibility is that Denyer just working out his contract at SCA and planning to commit to Ten full-time next year, which would please Ten executives immensely.

Times are tough in radio as networks suffer revenue declines and make staff redundant.

Perhaps SCA has already made its decision on Denyer’s suitability after the ill-fated Grant, Ed & Ash Breakfast show.

Could they make it on another network? ARN may be looking to replace their fledgling KIIS Melbourne breakfast show.

Alternatively, NOVA Entertainment could be looking at them for a future breakfast show, maybe on smoothfm.

SCA’s recent appointment of Jess Eva from The Block to Triple M Sydney Breakfast reveals a propensity to appoint so-called TV ‘stars’ to Breakfast radio.

Jones recently had a stint on Fox FM Breakfast, filling in for Fifi Box whilst she took maternity leave.

As Grant and Yvie continue to learn the ropes of breakfast radio, only time will tell if they have a future on metro breakfast radio.

The purpose of summer Breakfast talent shows remains a question.

It’s unlikely to be a training exercise, as two weeks is hardly going to touch the sides

What’s more likely is for it to function as a driver of sales, as looking after clients and promotions is always a priority, especially during this heavy retail Christmas period.

To be fair, trialling such shows allows networks to test talent in real-time breakfast.

If there is one thing that can be said about Grant Denyer, he has to be one of the hardest working guys in Australia.

Over the years, there have certainly been worse shows launched on metro radio than Grant & Yvie.

Wherever they turn up, we wish them both all the best.

Of course they are. Because god forbid anyone gives a shot to the people in regional slogging it out and trying to crack the big time. It’s not like they’ve been promised that or anything

Jess has been doing breakfast radio for most of this decade on the Sunshine Coast among other places.

@Typical Just to let you know how it works when you have a station underperforming and need to replace a breakfast show. The number 1 goal is putting a show together that you think the audience will like and listen to. So using someone who already has a profile you can already get a vibe on their popularity. Yes people in the regionals do an amazing job, but if you think you can roll out of Bega and into 2day breakfast you’re delusional. So stop complaining about people with a profile getting gigs, you’d be mad not to have a crack with a person who already has a profile. Btw not saying people with profile are better at radio, just better known to the potential audience.

Yeah how’s that gone for 2DayFM over the last 5 years?

@profiler “just to let you know how it works.” Interesting. I can’t remember a time where chucking in a personality with 0 radio background or understanding of the industry has flourished? The only example i can really pluck is Kate from KTM but even she spent time doing time learning about how to put a show together. If your ratings are garbage…a long term solution isn’t putting in a personality who is there for money, it’s putting someone in who understands people, who knows what is required in growth, and is there to work with other people. People from the regions 100% deserve a shot…we’re not talking from Bega you should know full well that talent is plucked from bigger regional markets up in the region of 400,000 people. I’m really sure that jacky or brian over in Cambeltown really care how famous Yvie Jones and Grant Denyer are?

Jess Eva is a great talent as shown in other markets including Sunny Coast & Cairns.

A deadset top chick who deserves everything she’s got.

Looking at the FOX ratings recently looks like Grant and Yvie could be taking over FOX breakfast. It needs a freshen up, hasn’t been travelling well for some time now.

I think Bega has more listeners than 2day fm.

Seriously.
This station is doomed.
Hard to believe it was once the biggest music station in Sydney.
It’s been irrelevant and will continue to get even less attention as fragmentation takes more listeners away from radio.
Really sad.

@fact check it hasn’t gone great for 2day because they’ve just been jamming shows together, I never said that would work. Let’s be honest, K&J are unbeatable right now.
@2cents I never said zero radio experience or they had to be from tv.

I’ll get you started on a few people who have profile in a market who have had a number 1 show. These shows all started somewhere and because the previous show blew up for whatever reason.
Brendan Jones
Ananda Keller.
Kyle joining Jackie O on nights, then drive, then breakfast.
Fifi Box
Hughsey and Kate
Sam Pang
Chrissie Swan
Ian Skippen
Robin Bailey
Dillon Lewis

No offence to anyone in Bega btw, just the first non metro that came to mind.
