The former general manager of the Super Radio Network’s (SRN) 2HD and NEWFM, Guy Ashford, is back working the the company.

Ashford was a radio announcer in the 1980s and 1990s across various stations and then spent time as an account manager for Central Coast Radio.

From 2008 to 2015, he was general manager of SRN’s NEWFM and 2HD, but since then, he’s been overseeing the sales and trading for online trading network Bartercard.

Ashford said he was pleased to be back in radio.

“It’s an absolute privilege to be coming back and working closely with network owner Bill Caralis as there are some exciting projects ahead for the network and locally with the launch of a new FM frequency for 2HD to service the Lake Macquarie area only weeks away,” he said.

If you can believe the latest radio ratings 2HD needs more than Guy Ashford and a new FM Lake Macqurie signal. Fill the broadcast reproduction of the music played and about 3 geriactic announcers with the onslaught of dementia need retiring.

Dear Mr Ashford,
I listen occasionally to 2HD’s sibling station 2SM.

Many programs on 2HD are related to 2SM.

There is a technical issue with 2HD’s transmission. It seems that 2HD’s signal to 2SM is only tranmitting one channel of a stereo pair.

This is particularly noticeable when listening to music. Two weeks ago, I was listening to Dave Sutherland’s weekend afternoon program. He was playing The Doors’ “Light My Fire”. One could not hear Ray Manzarek’s (RIP) keyboard playing.

The keyboard contribution is on the right channel of “Light My Fire”.

It is obvious that 2HD are not transmitting the right channel to 2SM. Rather 2HD is doubling the left channel as a supposed stereo pair.

That is not good. Many tunes such as those of “The Beatles” are in stereo and 2HD are doing an injustice transmitting a doubled left channel pair.

Mr Ashford, please fix the line between 2HD and 2SM to proper.

Thank you,
Anthony of exciting Belfield

On the 05-06-2021 at 1400, I was listening to Dave Sutherland’s show broadcast from 2HD to 2SM amongst other stations.

It is obvious that line between 2HD and 2SM is not fully stereo.

The first song on the program was The Doors’ “Light My Fire”. Ray Manzarek’s keyboard contribution which is on the right channel could barely be heard.

Please rectify the lack of a right channel and not double up the left channel as a stereo pair.

Alternatively, if you want to broadcast in mono from 2HD, why not combine the left and right channels into a mono signal.

Mono sounds better than a doubled up left channel signal pretending to be in stereo.

Yes the content is important but the technical qualities are also important

Thank you,
Anthony of excited but disappointed Belfield
