Jay Walkerden and NOVA settle court dispute

Former Editor & Content Director

The court proceedings between Jay Walkerden and his former employer NOVA Entertainment will not continue, with a Notice of Discontinuance being filed on Monday.

Walkerden had been the broadcaster’s head of podcasting, as well as general manager of Nova 106.9 in Brisbane.

In March last year, it was revealed he was under internal investigation about an alleged incident during a work trip to the United States. He was travelling with members of the Brisbane Breakfast show Ash, Kip & Luttsy with Susie O’Neill.

Walkerden did not return following the investigation and said he was devastated to find out via email that his time with the organisation was up.

His claim in the District Court centred around alleged unpaid severance fees and breach of contract as his employment was terminated with immediate effect.

NOVA Entertainment had lodged its Notice of Intention to Defend in July, however Monday’s Notice of Discontinuance (Whole Proceeding) indicates the two parties came to an out-of-court agreement.

Walkerden told Radio Today: “The matter is now settled and I’m happy with the outcome.”

NOVA Entertainment was contacted for comment.

Walkerden has since launched a new podcast business, Podshape, while NOVA Entertainment has split from podcast partner Acast and hired Rachel Corbett to lead its podcast offering.
