3AW’s Breakfast EP Kate Stevenson leaving radio
The longtime producer of 3AW’s ratings-topping Breakfast program is departing radio.
Kate Stevenson has been with 3AW for 14 years, seven as EP for Breakfast, and finishes up this Friday.
The Nine Radio show recently brought in Russel Howcroft to replace John Burns, who retired at 75.
Howcroft now co-hosts with Ross Stevenson (no relation to Kate). In the most recent ratings survey, 3AW’s share in Breakfast climbed to 28.4%.
While many observers have speculated this enormous ratings share is a COVID anomaly, as Melburnians seek out news and information during strict lockdowns, Nine has said it’s confident that since people have sampled the show, they will want to stick around for more – even when Melbourne opens up again.
According to the Herald Sun, Stevenson is moving into a corporate media role.
“I’ve had some tremendous experiences during my time at the station and been lucky enough to be part of a highly successful team, but more importantly an immensely fun and supportive one,” she said.
“It’s a tough decision to leave, but I do so knowing I’ve forged lifelong friendships and can turn on the radio any time for my fix.”
On Twitter, Stevenson said she will miss so much about Breakfast radio, but not the 3am alarms.
Nine was contacted for further comment and details about Stevenson’s replacement.
One of the best producers in the radio business. Nine are absolutely nuts for letting you walk out the door Kate.

Good Luck Kate in your new adventure. You will be greatly missed on AW. Your 14 years with Ross and John Burns, has been wonderful for us listeners. And Saturday mornings will not be the same without you
