Christian O’Connell’s hot take on Triple M’s Hot Breakfast

Staff Writer

The man at the front of the FM Breakfast pack in Melbourne has offered his hot take on who is in line to inherit Triple M’s Hot Breakfast from Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy.

Christian O’Connell prematurely congratulated recently unemployed Marty Sheargold on getting the coveted gig this afternoon on Twitter.

The tweet has since been deleted.

“Been a big fan of this radio and comedy legend from afar since Fifi and Marty,” he added. “See you in the morning Marty, let’s carpool.”

The tongue-in-cheek tweet was online for a couple of hours (Screenshotted by Radio Today)

O’Connell, whose GOLD 104.3 station is owned by Australian Radio Network (ARN), is obviously not a spokesperson for Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Triple M, but he subsequently told Radio Today he hopes the gig goes to Sheargold because “he’d be awesome”.

Sheargold left Nova’s hugely successful syndicated Drive show Kate, Tim & Marty in September. He subsequently told Radio Today Tonight that he’d be happy just to go out to dinner in Melbourne in 2021, let alone be gainfully employed.

Triple M’s Mike ‘Fitzy’ Fitzpatrick also told Radio Today Tonight that the Sheargold suggestion was “fake news”, that in the absence of information, people make things up, and that there are no spots available in the line-up anyway.

This morning, however, SCA announced the end of Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy’s time in the early-morning slot.

Christian should stick to trying to convince people it’s his content that rating and not Gold’s music position.

What would he comment on another stations rumoured lineup? Makes him look worried. Rumour has it management demanded he take it down.

More trouble ahead internally there… watch this space.

I’ve heard that management at Gold don’t care and that there is no trouble brewing internally at all. Quite the opposite – it’s very lovely over
there. I wouldn’t trust the other anonymous writer (or any other anonymous writers for that matter).

So if we’re not believing any anonymous comments, then we can’t believe you either? How meta.
