Neil Breen to host 4BC breakfast following Alan Jones departure

Staff Writer

Award-winning journalist Neil Breen will front the new 4BC Brisbane breakfast show.

Breen has been one of Nine’s most senior sports reporters and presenters for a number of years, following a distinguished career in newspapers.

Before joining Nine, Breen was editor of Australia’s largest selling newspaper, The Sunday Telegraph and sports editor of The Courier-Mail and The Australian.

He replaces Alan Jones, who announced his departure from radio on Tuesday, marking a return to local programming for the station in the prime time.

Nine Radio boss, Tom Malone, acknowledged the shift back to local in a statement on Saturday.

“We are thrilled that Breenie is returning to his home town with a dedicated local breakfast show for Brisbane on 4BC,” said Malone.

“Local radio is an important part of any community and we know Neil is the perfect choice to provide Brisbane listeners with the very latest news and information.”

Breen said he was excited to be returning home to Brisbane and the 4BC studios.

“Radio has an intimacy and a connection with its listeners like no other medium and my program will be focused on telling the story of Brisbane,” he said.

“And I want the people of Brisbane to tell us their stories, particularly as we recover from the impacts of COVID-19. I want it to be their show.”

Breen joined the Nine Network at the end of 2012 as executive producer of Today and has since been a leading sports reporter for Nine News Sydney and the network’s sports shows.

He starts June 1 after Jones’ farewell on May 29.

Ive never heard of this guy and most people wouldnt of
I dont want really negative but seriously… TV needs to learn TV people cant do radio.

There was so many other choices which would of been a no brainer winner e.g
Greg Cary, Spencer Howson and even somebody like Wayne Roberts

My prediction is its going be a ratings disaster.

“Local radio is an important part of any community”. So why do they continue to network from Sydney in so many shifts?

Interesting comment from Nine Radio boss Tom Malone – “Local radio is an important part of any community”.

Obviously it’s so important to Nine Radio that they are giving Brisbane listeners 3.5 hours per every 24 hours Monday to Friday on 4BC.

And they wonder why they can’t connect with the Brisbane listenership?

Bobby,
Allan Jones is retiring from radio due to his health issues, but he could still comment on things by email or phone if he wants to do so❗❗

We need Ben Fordham as we deserve the same level of talent as 2GB. As Drive host, he has embraced Queenslanders. He’s tenacious, very well prepared and informed and has magical connection with his radio audience.
So disappointing for me as I will now stream 2GB until Ray & Deb come on vis 4BC
