TRFM & Gippsland’s Gold 1242 ace latest Sale radio ratings
ACE Radio-owned TRFM and Gippsland’s Gold 1242 have plenty to celebrate after the release of the Xtra Insights survey in Sale.
TRFM was by far the market leader during the August survey period, with 32.4% of People 10+.
It was followed by ABC Gippsland on 18.7% (+1.6) Gippsland’s Gold 1242 on 18% (+4.6).
The biggest gain in Breakfast and Drive also went to Gold 1242, up 6.2% and 6.1% respectively.
TRFM and Gippsland’s Gold GM and ACE group CD Mat Cummins said: “I’m privileged to work with such a fantastic team in Gippsland who are leading the way with engaging content that continues to ensure our listeners and clients are hearing the best local radio from Morwell through to Orbost in Gippsland.”
The Sale region covers plenty of ground, more than 220km from Morwell to Orbost in Gippsland.
Did anyone notice the hit figures? What’s happened there. Well done ace on winning local. Mat Cummins knows that market
No surprises here, TRFM has a great on air line up at the moment plus are lead by some very experienced programmers. Hit’s line up simply can’t compete, needs a lot of work.
Congratulations to the ACE Radio team at TRFM!
Big fan of Mat Cummins – fantastic programmer who understands local radio better than anyone. Well done Mat and team, that is an outstanding book, make sure you go and celebrate!!
Don’t TR and Hit target seperate markets? I thought it was TR focus on Sale and the far east whilst Gippsland focuses on Warragul and melbourne’s south east?
These ratings aren’t ever a super good indication of what the station’s are actually doing in their communities.
TRFM is a heritage brand with a long history in the Gippsland region, especially east Gippsland.
Hit, being based in Warragul, has a stronger signal in west Gippsland. Given its geography, it will always struggle between those who commute to Melbourne and listen to Fox, and those who live closer to Sale and listen to TRFM.
To be honest, Hit Gippsland is really an extended licence for SCA to run its Melbourne programmes a little further out into the south east. Before they rebranded to Hit Gippsland, it was branded as Star 94.3 South East Melbourne so it shows where the focus lies.
Hit Gippsland covers south-east Melbourne all the way through to Sale, not just to Warragul & surrounds.
Hit’s 94.3FM reaches to approx. Moe/Morwell, their 97.9FM reaches from Morwell to Sale. Hit have a sales office based in the Traralgon CBD. TRFM is based in Traralgon but their signal can be heard from Warragul through to Orbost.
The Latrobe Valley is by far the business hub for the entire Gippsland region and where majority of the money is with radio advertisers. TRFM are simply more connected to the region which is why these results are not surprising at all.
Everything TRFM does is focused on their local audience, they don’t try and claim to be a metro station which is what the Hit announcers sound like they claim to be.
