The shake-up of Brisbane talk station 4BC is complete.

Nine Radio today named former LNP state politician and minister for transport and main roads, Scott Emerson, as the new local Drive host.

The former MP – who has also been The Australian’s Queensland bureau chief, worked at the ABC and a regular on Sky News – starts his new show on August 10.

“This is an exciting time to join 4BC as it goes even more local,” Emerson said. “I can’t wait to get back behind the microphone and talk about all the issues that really matter to Brisbane.

“We’ll be breaking news and debating the big stories of the day – local politics, business, sport – and hopefully having a laugh or two. If you listen to 4BC Drive, you’ll have the edge in Brisbane.”

Emerson replaces Ben Fordham who moved from a networked Drive shift into 2GB Sydney Breakfast following the shock departure of Alan Jones.

“We’re delighted Scott is joining 4BC as we return to local programming in Drive,” Nine Radio head of content Greg Byrnes said.

“As a journalist, broadcaster and former minister he’s well-credentialed for news-talk, particularly with a state election in October, but Scott is also a proud Queenslander who lives and breathes Brisbane.”

Earlier this year, 4BC announced plans to expand local content in Brisbane, appointing respected journalist Neil Breen as the station’s new Breakfast host.

With COVID restrictions now easing, popular 2GB and 4BC Mornings host, Ray Hadley, is returning to the Gold Coast where he plans to regularly present his program.
