triple j’s Like A Version glitch leaves listeners confused

Staff Writer

A technical glitch during triple j’s popular Like A Version segment has left listeners confused this morning (Friday, Feb 7).

Each Friday, the national broadcaster welcomes in a popular artist to perform an original and a cover live.

However, this morning’s confusing efforts left several listeners wondering whether the segment is indeed still recorded live.

Sally & Erica introduced The VANNS, and announced they’d be performing their own song ‘Fake Friends’.

“Live in the triple j studio, this is ‘Fake Friends,” they said, only for the band to launch into a cover of Bon Iver’s ‘Hey Ma’.

Stranger still, when the song finished, Sally & Erica began to back-announce ‘Fake Friends’, before the audio jumped, and the girls explained that the band had instead played their cover.

“There you have it, ‘Fake Friends’, live in the triple j studio… We’re hearing the cover first this morning!” they said.

“It’s interesting stuff. The VANNS have hit us with a cover of Bon Iver ‘Hey Ma’.”

When the segment resumed after the news, The VANNS then spoke about what they loved about the Bon Iver track, something usually reserved for the intro ahead of the cover being played.

Technical glitches are bound to happen in radio, but the incident left listeners wondering on social media whether the segment is indeed live to air, as claimed.
